Try making these super yummy and healthy Kalabasa Bread! You can even make extra income with this so learn about our sample costing as well. Watch the video here and see full recipe below:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup (205 grams) squash or kalabasa, mashed
  • 1 cup (120 grams or 4.25 oz) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (150 grams or 5.25 oz) white sugar
  • ½ tsp (2.4 grams) baking soda
  • 1 tsp (4 grams) baking powder
  • 1 tsp (2.64 grams) cinnamon powder
  • ½ cup (250 ml or 8 fl oz) light olive oil or pomace, or vegetable oil (don’t use extra virgin)
  • 2 eggs

HOW TO MAKE:

  1. Preparing the Kalabasa:

-Cook Kalabasa in boiling water until soft. Once cooked, remove from water and let it cool.

-Mash the Kalabasa then set aside.

  2. Preparing the dry ingredients:

-In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking soda and powder, and cinnamon together.

-Once it’s evenly mixed, set aside.

  3. Preparing the batter:

-In a large bowl, put in the mashed kalabasa, oil, and eggs, then mix it well.

-Add in the dry ingredient mixture, then continue to mix until everything is evenly incorporated.

  4. Baking:

-Prepare the baking pan of choice, then coat it with oil or butter and sprinkle it with flour. This is to prevent the bread from sticking to the pan.

-Pour in the batter evenly on the baking pan, then put it in a preheated oven at 175 degrees celsius and bake for about 50 minutes.

-You can do the toothpick test to check if the bread is done. Just poke the bread with a toothpick in the middle and if it comes out clean, it’s done.

  5. Serving:

-Remove the pan from the oven and let the bread cool off for about 15 minutes.

-Transfer the bread to a plate, then slice and serve.

I’m sure you’re already missing these yummy Pinoy hotcake! Try making these at home and you can even make extra income with this so learn about our sample costing as well. Watch the video here and see full recipe below:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 small cans (154 ml cans) evaporated milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup (128 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp (4 grams) baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • ¼ cup (52 grams) sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) cooking oil
  • few drops of yellow food color (optional)

HOW TO COOK:

  1. In a mixing bowl, put the evaporated milk and eggs then mix well. Add in the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar then mix until the dry ingredients are fully incorporated. Add in the oil then mix again. When the mixture is done, add in a drop of the food coloring and mix till the color is evenly distributed.
  2. In a flat pan, coat it with a bit of melted margarine. Scoop some of the pancake mixture (about ¼ cup) and pour onto the pan and cook on low heat. Wait until the pancake’s surface starts to bubble. When the bubbling starts to slow down, flip the pancake and cook the other side for about 20-30 seconds (this pancake is thinner than a traditional pancake so it cooks faster). Reapply the margarine onto the pan if needed and cook the rest of the pancakes.
  3. Prepare pancakes on a plate. Spread some margarine on top of the pancakes and sprinkle it with sugar. Done!

This is a popular twist to our very own Pandesal. Try making it ube-flavored with a yummy cheesy filling!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup fresh milkwarm
  • 2 tsp dry yeast
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 1 cup bread flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 tsp purple yam flavoralternatively, use 1/2 cup ube powder or ube halaya but you may need to adjust the flour
  • 1 block cheddar cheesecut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs

HOW TO COOK:

  1. In a small bowl or cup, combine the warm milk ( not too hot) and 1 tbsp sugar. Mix until dissolved. Add the dry yeast and let it stand for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients (flour, bread flour, salt and white sugar) in a large bowl and mix thoroughly. Make a well in the centre of the bowl then add the yeast mixture, cooking oil, vanilla essence and ube flavor. You can also use fresh ube, powder or ube halaya instead.
  3. Mix the dough until it forms. Transfer in a clean flat surfface and manually knead the dough for at lease 8 minutes until smooth. When you lightly press your finger into the dough, it should bounce back.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with tea towel and let it stand for about 1 1/2 hour or until size is doubled. I prefer to pre-heat the oven at 100°C for 10 minutes then turn it off and place the dough inside. This will help to rise the dough, specially in winter months.
  5. Gently deflate the dough by giving it a punch. Roll the dough into a log, cut and divide it into 20-25 pieces. Flatten the dough and add in the cheese filling, seal and shape into a ball.
  6. Line baking sheets with parchment paper and arrange the dough with 1/2 inch apart. Cover it with a clean tea towel and let rise for another 30 minutes or an hour. Meanwhile, pre-heat the oven at 180°C.
  7. Roll each dough with bread crumbs. Bake at 180°C for 10 – 15 minute until the top is lightly brown. Serve warm or store in an air-tight container at room temperature.
