The Pinoy Puto is one of the country’s most popular rice cake. It is also one of the most basic when it comes to the ingredients and the simplicity of the procedure.

Puto is a common snack food that is usually served with other dishes like Dinuguan or Pancit. It is usually served in family special occasions. But if you are craving for them today, you could go to a pasalubong shop. I’m sure they have it. Or better yet, you could learn making one for yourself and your family!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 tablespoon cooked rice
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • Oil for brushing pans
  • Cheese, sliced into small pieces (optional)

HOW TO COOK:

  1. Wash rice and soak in water for at least 5 hours.
  2. Add-in the cooked rice.
  3. Pour the soaked rice in the blender and add some water (water used for soaking) until it reaches the level of the rice.
  4. Blend for about 1 & 1/2 minutes.
  5. Pour the mixture into a bowl and add the baking powder, water, and sugar.
  6. Mix until smooth. Strain mixture into another bowl.
  7. Brush muffin pans with oil then pour about 2 tbsp of mixture into each muffin well/mold.
  8. Place muffin pan in a steamer and steam over high heat for about 15 minutes (don’t open the steamer during the cooking process).
  9. Remove from muffing pans and top with a slice of cheese.
  10. Serve and enjoy!
