Otap Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 cups all- purpose flour
  • 1 cup cake flour
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 pc egg
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp iodized salt
  • Vegetable oil, for oiling dough and board

HOW TO COOK:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all- purpose flour, sugar, salt, 1/4 cup shortening, vegetable oil, egg, yeast, vanilla, and water.
  2. Knead until dough is smooth and elastic.
  3. Divide into 2 portions and set aside.
  4. In a bowl, prepare shortening mixture by mixing together 3/4 cup shortening and cake flour.
  5. Divide into 2 portions and set aside.
  6. Oil the table.
  7. Roll out each portion of the dough onto a lightly floured board.
  8. Spread the shortening mixture.
  9. Gather the edges of the dough together to enclose the shortening mixture.
  10. Put oil on top of the dough and allow it to rest for 15 to 20 minutes.
  11. Roll out dough thinly on an oiled board.
  12. Brush dough surfaces with more oil.
  13. Roll tightly like a jelly roll (makes 2 rolls about 1 inch thick).
  14. Brush top of dough again with oil.
  15. Allow dough to rest for 10 to 15 minutes.
  16. Cut dough crosswise to desired portions.
  17. Brush surface again with oil and allow to rest for 10 minutes.
  18. Roll out each portion.
  19. Dip one side in sugar.
  20. Transfer to greased baking sheets.
  21. Bake in a 350 F or 176 C oven for 10-12 minutes or until done.
  22. Allow to cool and serve. Enjoy!
